the ministry of all things difficult

Selling out for an Island poet would be writing prose,
winning an international literary prize,
traveling & making pronouncements in somewhat distant lands
on the state of literature in Puerto Rico,

arriving back on the Island, greeted by press
& celebrated, named special consultant
on matters of culture by the local governor,

making every effort to not look so terrified & terrible
as you stand next to him on stage,
upon the realization that there is indeed a perfect poem
to be written for the occasion,
but not by you.

Either that, or writing
in English.
